Art Vault is a proposal for an art storage and gallery space that interrogates the relationship between the two programs. Inverting the prototypical typology with storage facilities relegated to a basement or annex, Art Vault pushes art storage and preservation to its exterior highlighting their integral nature to the gallery function. Nine vertical stacks of specialised storage positioned around a core of galleries and expressed through their facade articulation. At key moments the two programs overlap to create hybrid gallery spaces, revealed through curated moments in the façade.

The Bridge Street Aged Care Home, in both form and function, aims to preserve, and care for, an increasingly overlooked and vanishing Sydney. Neighbouring landmark buildings project silhouettes onto Bridge Street’s exterior, inscribing themselves upon the facade. Voids are carved from the exterior, each corresponding to a distinct landmark, with each void relating to a different floor. On the interior, these voids create focal points for communal spaces, giving each floor its own distinct identity. Through this subtractive process, the facade becomes a historical record.

Bridge Street is an aged care facility that serves as an architectural record of the historic centre of Sydney in which it is situated. With redevelopment threatening nearby heritage structures and the broader trend of displacing social amenities to the city outskirts, Bridge Street aims to record and care for an increasingly overlooked and vanishing Sydney. The project creates a safe, nurturing and nostalgic environment for its residents through strong visual connections to the surrounding historical and iconic buildings.

Each floor of the building is orientated towards a specific landmark, carving out voids in the exterior. Through these voids communal spaces are introduced, creating a strong sense of identity within each floor whilst maintaining familiarity through materiality and spatial organization. The façade, in turn, reads as a permanent record of the city’s threatened buildings.

Since this proposal the Lands Department Building, Education Department Building as well as the AMP Tower have been redeveloped.

Situated in Sydney's post-colonial historic centre, Bridge Street acts as an architectural record of its vanishing context. Neighbouring landmark buildings are facing demolition or redevelopment. To record their legacy their facades are captured from the site. These perspectives are then projected onto the proposal’s exterior, imprinting their silhouettes on the facade and floor plans. With each floor oriented towards a different neighbour, these subtractions introduce communal spaces to the interior, creating a strong sense of identity within individual floors, whilst preserving familiarity through material and spatial organisation.

Explored through material investigation and culminating in the design of a pavilion embodying the qualities inherent in the materials; temporality, tensility, and translucency.

My interest in bioplastics came from a desire to work with materials that have a lifecycle that match that of the design study. Through the body of work I have explored environmentally conscious materials that are plant-based, compostable and utilize food waste. Here the potentials of bioplastic are realized as a new way of thinking about the longevity of materiality in architecture. As I look ahead to the next phase of this body of work I’m excited to further explore this concept of ephemeral architecture.

The centerpiece of the exhibition was a 1:1 prototype of my pavilion design utilizing two panels of spirulina bioplastic and two panels of beetroot bioplastic framed with salvaged 2x4’s. Taking full advantage of the space and facilities I was able to construct the frame in a few days to display the bioplastic as intended and explore the architectural detailing and fastening methods.

The residency involved living and working on the grounds of Art Omi and being immersed in our individual projects whilst sharing meals and ideas with an amazing cohort. My project was a continuation of my research into the potentials of bioplastics in architecture.

RK House is a single family terrace house located in Sydney’s Inner West. The project reconfigured the existing programs of the terrace house in order to meet the growing needs of the young family.

RK House. The challenge of infusing the social spaces with natural light, arising from the combination of a deep floor plate and a compact site nestled closely among neighboring structures, was addressed through the implementation of skylights and glazed doors.

MP House was a private residential alteration to a

MP House was a private residential alteration to an early 20th century historic workers cottage in Sydney’s inner-west. The project involved the demolition of the ground floor additions from the 1950’s & 70’s to create a large continuous living space that flowed into the lush garden. By reconfiguring the upper level and adding a bathroom, the efficiency of the floor plate was optimized, whilst also enhancing the amenities for the occupants. The project involved both the initial conceptual and schematic design, city approvals and hands-on involvement in the demolition and construction process.

The Brew Lamp The Brew Lamp was born from a mater

The Brew Lamp

The Brew Lamp was born from a material exploration into the viability and potentials of bioplastics that utilize food waste. The shade of the lamp is crafted from recycled coffee beans and a plant-based bioplastic. The switch and other components are made from a biodegradable coffee filament. The result is a unique lamp that emits a warm, inviting glow. By using waste materials, the Brew Lamp is not only aesthetically pleasing, but also environmentally friendly.

Somewhere between public infrastructure and public art, Interlace melds the acts of socializing and seeking out visual stimulation in the world, offering residents a playful, shaded refuge at their doorstep. Designed in response to the Covid-19 pandemic, as the world began to re-open, Interlace proposed a place for residents to engage with their community in a safe and distanced manner with visual connection but physical separation.

Interlace’s simple rectilinear structure frames

Interlace’s simple rectilinear structure frames swaths of mesh fabric, stretched and contorted around each other to subdivide the space. Within the seeming chaos, the fabric is strategically placed to wall off both a winding “pathway”, allowing passage through the structure, and several adjacent “rooms”, where people can sit and talk with the comfort of being physically distanced while in visual proximity to others.
